The Challenge

Vincit Group is an organization with 8 vertically integrated industrial companies. All of them, in one way or another, assist others in providing excellent products and services to their clients through technology. As Vincit Group was coming through COVID, they recognized that they needed to staff up. They are an on-prem shop that was having trouble finding the resources they needed with the right skill set fits for their internal team.

Vincit Group had been historically a very small on-prem team, and they had more work than they had the team to do. They needed supplemental developers that would be able to hit the ground running and integrate seamlessly into their internal team.

"The personality for fitting into the team dynamic and then engineering skills are my two biggest benchmarks, and both of those have been fantastic.”

The Solution

Vincit Group partnered with ConcertIDC in 2022 to add resources to be part of their development team. They needed senior, savvy people with excellent technical, communication, and management skills, and CIDC provided those people.

To start, ConcertIDC provided one senior .NET developer. Vincit Group onboarded her as they would any member of their internal team, with a few days spent teaching her who they are, what they do, why they do it, how they think architecturally, what their processes are, etc. Vincit Group functions as a dynamic team without many formal processes, so ConcertIDC’s developer needed to be adaptable and quick.

Once the developer was onboarded, Vincit Group integrated them into the specific project they would be working on, first learning the code base and stack and then stepping to doing real development work as opposed to research. About three months after the first developer from CIDC was integrated and functioning with Vincit Group’s internal team, they decided to bring in another developer.

ConcertIDC’s developers operate as members of Vincit Group’s team, working on what they are assigned and reporting to their internal team.

"Our ConcertIDC software development partners were able to integrate well with our daily scrum and our internal team was able to collaborate with our partners as if they are internal team members. There was some diversity in how solutions were solved but that was a welcomed and embraced difference.”

The Obstacles

While there were inherent obstacles in assimilating ConcertIDC’s offshore developers with VIncit Group’s on-prem team, they were easily overcome with communication between ConcertIDC’s team and Vincit Group’s Software Development Manager. One challenge they tackled head on was the reality of different time zones, however ConcertIDC’s developers have been able to participate in Vincit Group’s daily scrum and make the difference work. Additionally, there was an initial concern of cultural dissonances, however the ConcertIDC developers, with the help of a CIDC client product manager, have been able to adjust to a more flexible team structure and work within the expectations of a different company.

While Vincit Group approached this partnership with hesitation, this staff augmentation process has gone as well as they ever could have expected. The friction Vincit Group expected from staff augmentation as opposed to hiring third party was curbed and avoided through excellent communication, talented developers, and dedication from both parties.

"Beyond the technical resources that ConcertIDC provided, the interaction with the [ConcertIDC] team has been phenomenal. Our [Client Product Manager] has been fantastic to work with. He has helped us work through any cultural boundaries that might be something we need to be aware of and helps us communicate with [the developers] in any way that helps them understand what our expectations are and helps us understand where they are coming from. That’s just been a great part of this process.”

The Results

Vincit Group expressed that having another set of resources they can hand off real work to and having that executed slightly out of band has been a benefit. ConcertIDC’s two developers working with Vincit Group are at different stages in their career but have both proved valuable assets to the Vincit Group team. Bringing on these developers through a staff augmentation strategy was a beneficial addition to Vincit group’s dynamic team.
